John Nelson DeJonge passed away January 24, 2026, age 72 after a battle with lung cancer.
John was born to Carl DeJonge and Joan Billings on September 21, 1953, in Allegan, Michigan. John was married to his wife Patti for 36 years, and together they raised 5 kids, and have had the opportunity to love on 9 grandchildren. John was a truck driver for nearly 50 years and loved sharing his passion of gardening, sports, fixing tractors with his kids, grandkids, family members, and friends.
Surviving are his 5 children, George (Stacy) Demaray, Debra (Jonas) Sewell, Ethan (Kate) DeJonge, Katie (Casey) Wersinger and Sydney (Michael) DeJonge-Bolton. 9 grandchildren, Wyatt Demaray, Malachi and Josiah Sewell, William, Pearl, Elora and Aelynn DeJonge, Charlee, and Henry Wersinger. His mother Joan Billings and 4 siblings Cathy (Steve) Small, Shirley (Joe) Dornak, Linda (Russ) Barnes, and Jim (Nellie) DeJonge. Along with many loved nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Patti, and father Carl DeJonge.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on February 7th; an informal visitation with the family will start at 1:30pm with a short service to follow at 3:30pm at Corner Bible Church 4001 124th Ave Allegan, MI 49010.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Lung Cancer Research at Mayo Clinic or the Mayo Clinic Hope Fund.
