John DenOuden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peters Funeral Chapel - Avon on Dec. 23, 2025.
John DenOuden, 81, of Avon

John passed away at his home on Sunday, December 21, 2025 after an 18 year battle with cancer. John's wishes were that no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at a later date.

John Henry DenOuden was born December 25, 1943 in Bon Homme County, the son of Cornelius and Tena (Vanderveen) DenOuden. He passed away at his home in Avon on Sunday, December 21, 2025 after an 18 year battle with cancer.

John graduated from Springfield High School in 1961, after which he attended two years at USD/Springfield from 1961 to 1963. John joined the National Guard in 1964.

John was united in marriage to Judy Soukup at St. John's Catholic Church in Wagner on July 2, 1970.

John began his career at Jurrens Repair, where he worked from 1964 to 1978. He then worked at MJ Implement from 1978 to 1983. In 1983, John purchased and operated the Avon Station, which he owned until 1992. After selling the business, he went on to work at Haar Implement from 1993 to 1999. Following that, John returned to Jurrens Repair, where he remained until his retirement. In his later years, he enjoyed working part-time for Wayne Tjeerdsma for several years.

John loved fishing with his buddy Al Jonkers and enjoyed trap shooting until he was no longer able to. One of the highlights of John's day was going to A-1 for coffee with his brothers, Alan and Don, along with his friend Jim Yonkers. Shannon fondly remembers spending Sundays at Don's farm while growing up, as well as countless trips down local gravel roads in the family Jeep with her dad.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife of 55 years Judy of Avon; his daughter Shannon and husband Moises Alvarez of Fort Lauderdale, FL; brothers and sisters: Janice (Jim) Russell of Rapid City, Don (Cheryl) DenOuden of Avon, Clarence (Joan) DenOuden of Pierre, Ruth (Jerry) Boaz of Topeka Kansas, and Alan DenOuden of Avon; along with a host of nieces and nephews, sharing a close bond with Doug, Tony, Melodie, Amy, Joy, Candy, Tena, and Wendy.

John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: James DenOuden, Joyce DenOuden, Leonard DenOuden, Mary DenOuden, Carol Roth, and Richard DenOuden.
