Atwater, California - John Vieira Dias of Atwater passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, in Merced with family by his side. John was born November 3, 1938, in Ponta Delgada das Flores, Azores to Emelia and Joao Dias. On June 23, 1962, he married Aldora Dias and they were together 55 years before her passing in 2017.
John came to the United States in 1958 looking for a better way of life and the American Dream. He enjoyed his employment with the Atwater Elementary School District with 34 years of dedicated service. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, fishing and boating with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Zelda Dias-Harper of Los Banos, and son George Dias of Oakdale, his grandchildren, Adam Pennycuff of Fresno, Travis Pennycuff of Merced, Chase Pennycuff of Merced and Matthew Dias of Nampa, Idaho. John also leaves behind his brother Joe Dias of Turlock as well as nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited for John on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 6:00pm at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Atwater. A private burial will take place with family at Winton District Cemetery, Winton, CA.

John, always a gentelman, worked hard always going over and beyond of what was asked. John was the definition of integrity. Will continue to treasure the memories of John taking great care of Thomas Olaeta School.

George and Aldora were newly weds when he milked for our dairy. Always a gentleman and very allergic to hay. He went to work at the school where he remained until retirement. Rest In Peace.
