John Dixon Obituary
John "Mike" Dixon, born Sept. 9, 1960, passed peacefully on March 5, 2026, at Cox South, surrounded by the love of his family. Mike had a deep relationship with the Lord and lived his life with the quiet assurance of knowing where he was going. While his family grieves his loss here on earth, they take comfort in knowing he has been welcomed home and reunited with the love of his life.
Mike shared 38 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jan Dixon, whom he married on Aug. 18, 1985. Their life together was built on love, faith, and devotion to family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jan Dixon, who passed away in 2023; his mother Shirley Bryant; his cherished mother-in-law Jean Quillin; and his grandfather Hadley Dixon; and father John Dixon.
He is survived by his loving daughter Jamie Haugsted and son-in-law Dakota Haugsted, along with his cherished grandchildren Kayden, Greyson, Brynlee, and Makynlee Haugsted, who were truly his whole world. Being "Papa" was one of the greatest joys of his life, and nothing made him prouder than spending time with his grandkids and watching them grow.
Mike is also survived by his brother David Dixon and sister-in-law Beth Dixon, along with his nephews, Jacob and Ethan Dixon and niece Laura Dixon. He loved his family with everything he had.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Jack Quillin, Jim Quillin, and Joe Quillin, along with his nieces Jacque Quillin Rooffener and Tisha Clark, who were part of the extended family he cherished.
Having only one child, Mike and his daughter Jamie shared an especially close relationship. He made sure she always knew how proud he was of her. It was not uncommon for him to call just to tell her that, and he rarely ended a conversation without reminding the people he loved how much they meant to him.
Mike's strong work ethic showed throughout his life. He began working at a young age, milking cows before later working for Meeks. He went on to spend many years delivering propane for Garrett's Propane, All Star Propane, and National Propane. In later years, he continued working at Walmart and Woods, always valuing the importance of hard work and providing for his family.
Those who knew Mike will also remember his dry sense of humor and his genuine compassion for others. He had a quiet way of caring for people and a heart that was always willing to help when someone needed it.
Mike will be remembered most for the love he poured into the people around him. One of the greatest lessons he leaves behind is simple but powerful, tell the people in your life that you love them. Mike never let those words go unsaid. He made sure the people he loved knew exactly how he felt about them.
His family finds peace in knowing he passed gently, surrounded by love, and that he is now reunited with Jan. The man who spent his life reminding others to say "I love you" is now hearing those same words as he is welcomed home into the arms of the Lord and reunited with his beloved wife.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Polk County Humane Society, a cause that was very close to Mike's heart. He had a deep love for all animals, and this would honor his memory in a way that reflects the compassion he showed to everyone around him.
A come-and-go time of remembrance will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, March 22, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in their fellowship hall, where friends and family are invited to stop by, share memories, and celebrate Mike's life together.
