John W. Dotchel, of Philadelphia, PA passed away on February 27, 2026. He was 77 years old.

John graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force in 1970, John joined the Philadelphia Police Department and retired in 1994 with the rank of Detective. John then went on to work at the Internal Revenue Service Philadelphia Campus for 15 years, retiring in 2012. John was a devoted public servant, serving his country and community proudly.

He brought that same dedication to private life and was an equally devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Elizabeth and John enjoyed 34 years together and have many fond memories. John was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia Philles, Eagles, Flyers and 76rs. One of his favorite things was attending Philadelphia Philles games and watching the Philadelphia Eagles on Sundays and the Flyers and 76rs when they were on.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Dotchel; his aunt, Agnes Miller; his uncle, Phillp Dotchel; and his cousin, Charles Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth, as well as his children: Fredrick (Rebecca) Dotchel, Jennifer Dotchel, and John A. (Heather) Dotchel; and his grandchildren: Joan, Helen, and Cate. He is also survived by his uncle, John Kinee; his aunt, Joan Gosciniak; his niece, Lisa (Dano) Frisco; and many other cousins and extended family members.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Life Celebration on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. A visitation will be held from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at John F. Givnish Funeral Home located at 10975 Academy Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154. Memorial service to follow at 9:30 AM. Interment to immediately follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's honor may be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
