John Doublehead was born April 11, 1935 in Stilwell, OK to Sam Joe and Adeline (Bunch) Doublehead, and went to his heavenly home on August 6, 2024 at his home in Cherry Tree Community in Stilwell, OK at the age of 89 years.
John was a first Cherokee speaker. He attended Zion School and later served in the National Guard. He also worked in construction for many years. After retirement, John worked part time at Starr Motors and Rowan's IGA. John loved the Lord and was a member and deacon for many years at Cherry Tree Baptist Church. Family was at the core of JOhn's being. He enjoyed life and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, attending every birthday, holiday, and sporting event he could. John especially loved watching OU football and also loved spending his free time gardening and feeding the birds.
John is preceded in death by his parents Sam Joe and Adeline Doublehead, wife Becky Doublehead of 44 years, wife Dorothy Lyles of 12 years, son Glenn Doublehead, daughter Donna Gray, 5 sisters; Janana Daughtery, Lydia Young, Emmaline Gonzales, and Carolyn Claphan, 4 brothers; Denton Doublehead, Hiner Doublehead, Charlie Doublehead, And Adam Doublehead.
John is survived by his grandchildren; Vincent Doublehead and wife Tara, Vanessa Johnson and husband Brandon, Bradley Doublehead and wife Madison, Aaron Foster, Will Foster and wife Amanda, Clinton Foster and wife Caysi, and bonus grandson Bryson Smith. He is also survived by great grandchildren; Kylan, KaHeaven, Dallee, Kaelynn, Raelynn, Arianna, Mackenzie, Jaxson, Dane, Lyric, Logan, and Gavin, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
John will always have a special place in our hearts. We will meet again. It's not goodbye, it's see you later.
