John was always asking questions to figure out he could help. I will miss his attention to me and his caring spirit. I know he thought he would live longer but he put his life in God's hands. John Vincent Durso was born to Vincent and Mary Durso on October 13, 1954, in Coral Gable, Florida. He died unexpectedly October 2, 2025, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota. He grew up on the East Coast eventually coming to Omaha to complete his medical degree followed by residency in psychiatry at the University of South Dakota Medical School. His practice included positions with University Physicians Clinic in Sioux Falls and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls and at Fort Meade, Sturgis, South Dakota. He was a well-respected practitioner known for his rapport with his patients. After his years of practice, he relocated to Yankton, South Dakota.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his former wife, Donna Parry, and extended family including Tom and Joanne Faitoute, Mary Clare and Gary Sullivan and Ann Durso, and a host of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held 7 PM, Monday, October 20, 2025, at Wintz and Ray Funeral Home in the Hospitality Center, 2901 Douglas Ave, Yankton, SD. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Fall will be held at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the South Dakota Area 63 Alcoholics Anonymous of Yankton.
