Passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 leaving his beloved wife Denise M. Ebanks. Father of Eric John Ebanks and Danielle Marie Ebanks(fiancÃ© of Brian Kohnken). Pops/Grandfather of Leonidas and Baby Girl Kohnken. Son of John F. Ebanks, Sr. and Maria Teresa Barrientos Ebanks. Grandson of Maria Teresa Sosa of Honduras and the late Nell Cheshire. Brother of Jacklyn Ebanks Johnston and Jessica Ebanks Leedy. Son- in- law of Gerry T. McKenzie and Tommy McKenzie, Sr. Brother-in- law of Tommy McKenzie, Jr., Stacy and Ricky Davidson, Scott and Denise McKenzie, Michael Leedy, and Jeff Johnston. Uncle to Jourdan and Juliett Johnston, Michael, Matthew and McKenna Leedy, Carly and Harley Davidson, Blair and Julia McKenzie. Nephew and Godson of the late Louis Salvaggio and Judith Salvaggio. Nephew of Sonia Barrientos, Celina Ruiz, Lila Yamaguchi, Cesar and Dulce Sosa, Ola Kirkconnell and Yvonne and Mike Ebanks , Sosa Mendoza family of Honduras, and the Anderson-Salgado Family. Cousin of Fernando, Cynthia and Melissa Martell, Nell Ebanks Mangus, Nicolle, Louis Anthony Salvaggio and Tatiana Dâ€™Antoni, Fabiola, Julio, Andres and Jose Ruiz, Victor, Anna, Kenji and Erica Yamaguchi. He also leaves behind childhood friends: Jeff Mills(Sherri), Brent Cavet(Celeste), Joey Grenner, Gerald Gonzales (Tammy), Glen Smith, and Dennis Anderson. Family friends: Bodden- Sosa, Dixon-Connor, Banks-Cooper, Elias- Jessie. Special thanks to Michele Chacon for all your love and friendship. John was a proud member and second engineer with the Marine Engineer Union (MEBA) for the past 10 years. He was also a proud shipmate of Kim Sterritt. All family and friends from St. Bernard Parish, Garyville, LaPlace, Marine Engineer Benefits Association, Greater New Orleans Surgery Center, National Maritime Union are invited to attend the memorial Mass on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 7:30 PM at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 West Virtue Street, Chalmette, LA. Inurnment will be private. Visitation from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday.

Hey uncle John. It's been 9 years since you left us. And that's pretty mind blowing because it feels like you were just here but at the same time feels like it's been an eternity. Not a day goes by when I don't think of you or wonder if I'm making you proud. Whenever I need help I always talk to you. I can't wait to see you again. I wish you would be here to see me now. I still go fishing every now and then but it's not the same without you. You taught me everything I know about guns and hunting and fishing. I haven't been hunting again since the last time we went. I went fishing for the first time last time and it didn't go great. I couldn't stop thinking about you. I haven't taken your necklace of in 9 years. I can't wait to give it to my future son. They will know your name and story for generations. I miss you sooo much. Love, Superman
