Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, LtdJohn Henry Eberly Jr, 78, of Newville, passed away on September 2, 2026.
Born in Carlisle, on March 14, 1948, John is the son of the late John Henry Eberly Sr and Dorothy (Keefauver) Eberly.
John is survived by his son, Mark Eberly (Sandy), son, Kent Eberly (Megan), grandchildren, Garrett, Kaitlyn, Scarlett, and Rori, sister, Karen Brown (Steven), and nephews, Nicholas Karathanasis, Aaron Eberly, and Jordan Eberly, and sister-in-law, Linda Eberly.
John is preceded in death by his son, John Michael Eberly, mother and father, and brother, Michael Eberly.
John was born and raised in Carlisle but lived in Newville for more than half his life. He graduated from Carlisle High School in the class of 1966. He then went on to join the United States Air Force in 1967. He worked as a forklift operator for the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg for 20 years before ultimately retiring.
John had a love for British television that stemmed from his time stationed in England. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner and watching his shows, taking trips to the diner, and had a love for animals and classic cars.
John was a kind and loving person who cared deeply for his family, friends, and neighbors. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, ( secure.aspca.org ), or Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, ( www.ucc-homes.org/charitable-giving/ .)
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 1:00pm-2:00pm, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00pm at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013. A funeral service with full honors will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 2:00pm at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003.
