John Eilenberger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 13 to Jun. 15, 2023.
John M Eilenberger Stroudsburg - John Michael Eilenberger Sr. passed away peacefully on 5 June 2023 about a month after celebrating his 95th birthday with a large group of friends and family. John was born in East Stroudsburg on 6 April 1928 to Frank and Eliza (Male) Eilenberger. He grew up on the family farm, the current site of the ESU fieldhouse. He is survived by his younger brother Clyde, his children John Jr. (Diane), Dawn (Jim), his beloved grandchildren, Cody, Kayleigh, Justin, Deanna, Dylan, and Laura, and two great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were always available to visit with Uncle John. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Albertson), his son Jeffery and his siblings Beulah, Frank, Raymond, Bertha, and Mary.

John had a full and adventurous life. He graduated from East Stroudsburg High School in 1947 and was co-owner of Pocono Roofing and Building Company for over 50 Years. He began playing golf as a teenager, while working at the Glenbrook Country Club, and retired from league play shortly after his 90th birthday. He learned to fly at Hamlin's Airport and loved to fly his Piper Cub around the east coast. John also loved snowmobiling and was a champion racer for several years. He was also a member of the Masonic Order, the Elks, the Eagles, the Manzanedo Rod and Gun Club, and was a Faithful member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Craigs Meadow.

John was a proud Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as part of the Army of Occupation in Germany. His time in Germany gave him the travel bug resulting in him and Dorothy taking many cruises and vacations with family and friends around the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

John never met a stranger and could talk to anyone and usually did! He will be greatly missed by his breakfast crew (Besecker's Diner and The Kitchen) and his poker buddies, pinochle friends, and the Saturday lunch crowd at the Elks.

A celebration of life will be held on 26 August at 2:00 PM at the East Stroudsburg Elks. Donations on Johns behalf can be made to Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Craigs Meadow, LVHN Hospice House, or to the charity of your choice.
