John Erb Sr.

John Erb, Sr., age 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. John was a veteran of the United States Navy, and an electrician, known by many in Covington as "the Bright Light Man" for years. He enjoyed visiting with and talking to everyone, and had a knack for keeping you invested in the stories he told. As a lifelong truck driver too, he had some pretty interesting trucker stories that he loved sharing! Although he retired from driving in 2013, it never stopped him from giving directions all these years. Any time you needed to know how to get somewhere, Mr. John could tell you and would love to help. He attended Hope Community Church in Covington, and enjoyed spending time with his family, church family, and friends. He touched many lives and will be missed dearly.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his fiancé, Donna Bertram; his children, John Henry Erb, Jr., Bethany (Dave) Erb, Charles (Krista) Golightly, Missy (Kim) Smith, and his son-in-law, Brian DeFreese; fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Martin and Mary Elizabeth Weaver Erb, and his daughter Helen Denise DeFreese.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, at Covington Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. Cremation services are under the direction of Covington Funeral Home.
