John Robert “JR” Ewing, 92, went to be with our Lord on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Azle, TX.
JR was born on July 23, 1933, in Henderson, Texas, to Mae Violet (Golden) Ewing and John Armstead Ewing. He was united in marriage to Troy Francis Bryson on June 11, 1955.
JR proudly served in the United States Army. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer with General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin, where he dedicated 40 years of service. In 1968, he established Emco Oil and Gas with his business partner, Bud Moreland. JR cherished his time with family and friends—whether on the golf course, at the hunting camp, on the farm, around the card table, or at dinner. Above all, he was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a friend to many who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Troy; parents Mae Violet and John Armstead Ewing; brother Lynn Ewing; and second wife Sue Fournier.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, John (Jay) Robert Ewing Jr. and wife Michelle of Weatherford, Texas, and Bryson Ewing and wife Shelly of Chesterfield, Virginia; his grandchildren, Jared Ewing and wife Alison, Caitlin Sampson and husband Milton, Bryson (Kendall) Ewing and wife, Kristina, and Devon Ewing; his greatgrandchildren, Caroline, Frances, Mary Hayes Sampson, Austin Ewing, and Luke Ewing; his sister, Jeannine Ewing; his stepdaughter, Denise Cantrell and husband Robert; his step granddaughter, Andrea Cantrell; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
