John Fagan Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 7, 2025.
John Francis Fagan, Jr., a native of Carbondale, died Monday evening, May 5, 2025, at The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore after a brief illness, just weeks before his 83rd birthday.
John is survived by his cherished wife of 62 years, the former Carol Colzaretti; two sons: John Fagan and his husband, Wilfredo Pascual, San Francisco, CA, and Michael Fagan of Galloway, NJ; two daughters: Donna Lang and her husband, Chris, of Westborough, MA, and Lynn Brown and her husband, John, of Greenfield Township, PA; seven grandchildren: Juliana Fagan, Sara Fagan, Kayla Fagan, Victor (Scotty) Cortes and his wife, Tori, Carolyn Cortes, Ethan Cortes, and Maya Lang, and his brother, Gerard Fagan and his wife, Kathy, of Lake Ariel, PA; as well many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John F. Fagan, Sr. and the former Geraldine Casey Caffrey, and his sister Joanne Curtis of Honesdale, PA.
A proud descendant of coal miners and D&H trainmen from Counties Mayo and Sligo, Ireland, and Lancashire, England, John was born during the flood of 1942. His mother was transported across the Lackawanna River by rowboat to the former Carbondale General Hospital. He grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School, Drexel Hill, PA, where he met his beloved wife, Carol, when they worked together as teens at Pruitt's Five and 10 Cent Store in Upper Darby, PA. John and Carol raised their young family in Carbondale and Newton Lake in the 1970s and 80s, later living in Absecon, NJ for twenty years. John, always outgoing and friendly, worked in Scranton and in New Jersey in the life insurance, auto sales, and banking fields. John and Carol retired to his hometown of Carbondale in 2004. John was an avid reader who enjoyed history, family genealogy, and politics. John was a lifelong Eagles and Phillies fan. His driving focus was his devotion to his wife and his four children. John delighted in being a grandfather to his seven grandchildren. He will be missed greatly.
The funeral will be Saturday, May 10th from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will take place at a later date in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Friends may call Friday, May 9th at the funeral home from 4 to 7 pm.
