John D. Ferger Sr.

John D. Ferger Sr., 92, of Avalon, WI, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
He was born on January 6, 1933 in WI, the son of John and Odessa (McMillan) Ferger. John was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He married Gail Gard and together they had four children. John later married Judith Dawson on November 21, 1970 in Rockton, IL. She predeceased him on December 10, 2019.
John was formerly employed by General Motors. He loved going dancing; especially with Judy. John was known for his story telling and cracking a joke (when he could remember it). He was always there for his family and willing to help anyone in need. John taught his children the importance of a strong work ethic and hard work. He could often be found having breakfast at the Sun Down Café in Clinton. John was a member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church and his faith was very important to him. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Colleen Janes, John Ferger Jr., Pamela (Jennifer) Ferger-Kreyer, and Lisa (Eric) Heine of Janesville, WI; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents; son-in-law, Jerry Applebee; three brothers; and one sister.
A Memorial Service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 in Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church, 23184 Bergen Rd, Poplar Grove, IL, with Pastor Wade Crevie officiating. Visitation of Remembrance will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday in the church. Inurnment will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
