John Ferro, 74, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Brooklyn, New York died Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He was the loving husband of Josephine (Mattarelliano) Ferro with whom he shared more than 51 years of marriage. Born in Sassano, Italy, he was the son of the late Michele and Catherine (Prostamo) Ferro.
John was a member of St. Matthew's Church in East Stroudsburg. He was chairman of The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority. He served his community with FEMA incorporating upgrades and increasing safety to the Monroe County 9-1-1 system. John was also very involved with the Boy Scouts Troop 83 and led his grandson and many other Scouts through the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved being outdoors, hunting, building, gardening, tinkering, landscaping, collecting, and creating. He adored his wife and treasured his family above all else.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children: Catherine Ferro; Bernadette Holloway and her husband, Stephen; Louise Zavertnik and her husband, Kyle; Michael Ferro and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren: Heather, Bruno, Johnathan, Ava, Jack, Jacob, John, Jason, Anna; siblings: JoAnne Ciufo (and the late Victor Ciufo) and Leo Ferro and his partner Fran; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Theresa, Paul, Denise, John, Helen, and Annie; and many nieces and nephews who he loved. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Anna Marie Ferro and Anthony Ferro; his sister-in-law Kristina Nardilla and brother-in-law Joseph Mattarelliano.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 78 Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Entombment will follow in at Holy Family Cemetery Mausoleum, Nazareth, Pa. There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
