John A. Fink, 87, of Brookings, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home under hospice care. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings, with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 pm.
John was born in 1935 in Eden Valley, MN. He left the farm to live with his brother in Minneapolis and to attend Saint Cloud State. John worked for the Gambles Company managing Gambles hardware stores in Minnesota and the Tempo store in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1972 John and his wife Ruth purchased the Gambles Hardware store in Brookings, SD. After 10 years they sold the store and John managed the Brookings Pamida Store until his retirement.
John and Ruth have three sons, Keith Fink (Terri) Chamberlain, SD, Kevin Fink (Susan), Colorado Springs, CO, and Kurt Fink (Karen), Minneapolis, MN. He also has two grandchildren; Heather Hill (Tyson), Valerie Housley (Taylor), Mark Koloc, David Koloc, and Natalie Kallas and eight great grandchildren; Katie Hill, Hannah Hill, Caleb Hill, Isaac Housley, Beau Housley, Madylin Housley, Levi Housley, and Naomi Housley, Mia Kallas, and Noah Kallas.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Katherine (Rademacher) Fink, brothers; Leopold Fink, Anthony Fink, Richard Fink, Kenneth Fink and sisters Elvira DeMorett and Natalie Niewind.
