John J. "Jack" Flannery, Jr., 87, of York, ME, formerly of Concord, MA died peacefully in the comfort of his home, while surrounded by the loving embrace of his family on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Campobasso) Flannery, with whom he shared nearly 62 years of marriage.
A proud Concordian, Jack was born and raised in Concord, as the son of the late John J. Flannery, Sr. and Violet (Riley) Flannery. He graduated from Concord High School in 1954.
During his professional life, Jack worked alongside his father at John J. Flannery, Inc. He was also an original New England Sales Distributor for Sno-Jet snowmobiles and Husqvarna chainsaws, before operating his own contracting business, prior to retirement.
A man beloved by all who knew him, Jack never met a stranger. He embodied a natural ability to connect and befriend everyone he came in contact with. His smile, fun loving spirit and great sense of humor will never be forgotten. He also enjoyed extensive travel around the world during his long life. His family was his biggest source of pride, particularly his five grandchildren, who all affectionately knew him as Bumpa. He was their biggest fan at every sports game and extracurricular activity. He found immense joy in supporting those he loved in their respective life endeavors.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he will be forever missed by his three devoted children, Kevin Flannery and his wife Eileen of Concord, Karen Bartkus and her husband Ted of Acton and Jay Flannery and his wife Moe of Beverly, his grandchildren, Tobe Bartkus and his wife Kelly, Maire Bartkus, Michael, Erin and Kelly Flannery, two great-grandchildren, Bode and Tucker, along with several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. He was the brother of the late Lorraine Flannery and Edward "Bud" Flannery.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jack's life during a memorial gathering on Monday, July 10th beginning at 12 pm in the Musketaquid Sportsman's Club, Old Mill Road, Concord. Private burial will be held at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 390 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
