John Forbes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Troy B. Smith Professional Services from Jan. 27 to Jan. 28, 2026.
I am at the beginning of a new life far better, far sweeter, without pain, sickness, sorrow, hurt and most of all no more suffering. To everything there is a reason and a time to every purpose under the heaven; a time to weep and a time of war and truly there has been war.

I can't fight anymore battles. I'm tired, it's time to take my rest.

John Wesley (Doggy Dog) Forbes, 69, of Bogalusa, surrounded by his family departed life from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain to a place of eternal rest on January 16, 2026.

John was one of 14 siblings born February 17,1956 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Arnold Lee Forbes Sr. and his mother, the late Celia Bell Brown Forbes. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1974. He served as a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the US Army at Fort Bliss, Texas from March 16, 1979, to September 10, 1980. Before going to the Army, he married the late Glenda Watson and became an instant dad to three beautiful children; Lenzie, Tommy and Mishell.

John was in poor health for over 36 years but never complained. He bore his illness patiently and would often try to make members of the family feel that he was not suffering. John was a diehard Indianapolis Colts fan and always looked forward to watching the game with his mom. He was his mother's best friend. Whenever she returned home from being out, she always called out "John Wesley and he always responded with "Yeah" to ensure she knew he was there. Dog will be remembered for his love of playing dominoes and concern for people and devotion to his community and lifelong friends.

Left in God's care to cherish his memories are his daughter, Aiera Jonnise Forbes; son, John Wesley Forbes Jr; stepchildren, Lenzie Watson, Tommy Crumedy and Mishell Ray; grandchildren, Brae'lyn Moses, Bryson Moses, Braxton Moses, and John Wesley Forbes Ill of Bogalusa, Louisiana; sisters Patricia Gibson, Sandra Cooley, Pamela Forbes, Lenelva (Byron) Tyner, Carol Varnado, Martha Forbes and Shawanda (Brian) Mingo of Bogalusa, Louisiana; brothers, Brigade CSM (Retired) Oliver (Cynthia) Forbes of Pearland, Texas and Jeffrey (Melinda) Forbes of Bogalusa, Louisiana; aunt Corrine Watson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sisters in law Shirley Forbes of Houston, Texas and Sandra Forbes of Bogalusa, Louisiana; brother from another mother Donald (Patricia) Lewis of Bogalusa Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Glenda Watson Forbes, father; Arnold Lee Forbes Sr; mother, Celia Bell Brown Forbes, sister, Ora Lee Gatlin Bell; brothers, Jimmy Lee (Thigh) Forbes, Arnold Lee (Molly Forbes, Charles Anthony Forbes; paternal grandparents Oliver and Martha Forbes; maternal grandparents Jim and Isabel Brown; brother in laws Larry Gatlin, Daniel Gibson, Milton Bell, and Donald Ray Varnado;seven uncles and seven aunts.

John and I was in the Army Reserve together. We had some good times as weekend warriors. We we friends on the streets as well. Last time I saw him was several years ago while I was visiting the sick in the hospital. We shared a few laughs and memories. I will miss him.
