Mr. John Robert Freeman, Jr., affectionately known as Bobby, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on December 19, 1948, Bobby was a man of remarkable character and an embodiment of resilience and compassion.
Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Army, where his bravery and dedication were recognized through numerous awards, including the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), Vietnam Campaign Medal with the 1960 Device, and the esteemed Purple Heart. His skills as a marksman with the M-14 & M-16 were also notably acknowledged.
After his distinguished military service, Bobby returned to civilian life, where his love for family and community shone brightly. He was a person of faith who not only preached and shared the Gospel but also baptized people in the river, leaving an indelible mark on those he ministered to.
Bobby's interests were as deep as they were varied. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace in the quiet moments by the water. A true family man, he was often found fixing things around his house, offering legendary practical advice, or simply being the best listener one could hope for. His strong family ties were evident in the love and care he extended to all his relatives.
In his younger years, Bobby played football in high school, showcasing his athleticism and team spirit. These traits carried over into his personal life, where he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a shoulder to lean on. His home was a sanctuary not only for him but for all who were welcomed into it.
Bobby is predeceased by his loving parents, John Freeman, Sr. and Lenora Freeman; his sister, Judy Freeman Bennett; and his sister-in-law, Judy Savage Freeman. His legacy of love and strength lives on through his son, Kevin Freeman and wife Traci; his daughter, Melanie Freeman; his grandson, McKenzie Clayborn Freeman; and his siblings, Jackie Freeman, Jimmy Freeman and his wife Judy, Ginger Freeman Parker and her husband Glenn, and Ricky Freeman, all of whom will miss him dearly.
To all who knew him, Bobby was more than a sum of his accomplishments; he was the embodiment of unwavering support, a beacon of hope, and the heart of his family. His life was a testament to the power of faith, the importance of service, and the enduring nature of familial bonds.
Bobby's departure from this earth is not just a loss to his family but to the many lives he touched. His spirit, however, will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who loved him and the community he so fervently served.
