John Garbien
John Garbien, age 95, of Shelton, entered into rest on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Griffin Hospital. He was the devoted husband of the late Shirley (Bahner) Garbien. John was born in Derby on March 4, 1928, son of the late Michael Nicholas and Aniela (Pysz) Garbien, and was a lifelong Shelton resident. He proudly served his country with the US Army during the Korean War and was a passionate advocate for Veterans affairs for the rest of his life. John worked as an expeditor for Sikorsky Aircraft for over 30 years before his retirement. In his retirement, he was an avid collector. He is the beloved father of Robert J. Garbien and his wife Eileen, Linda T. Garbien and her husband Willard Nicholas, and Matthew M. Garbien, cherished grandfather of Alyssa J. Garbien, and step-grandfather to Evan Wahlquist and Russell Wahlquist and his wife Elizabeth. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by three brothers, Henry, Mitchell, and Joseph Garbien, and his sister Irene Deptula. Funeral services have been entrusted to the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, and will be private. Burial with full military honors will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
