John Andrew Gartner of Park Rapids passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2024.

John was born December 5, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids to Albert and Martha Gartner. John attended school and graduated in 1972 from Park Rapids High School. He went to work in Minneapolis for several years, then worked at Nereson Automotive in Detroit Lakes. Following this, he enjoyed owning Gartner Trucking, hauling logs, milk, corn, fertilizer, and potatoes.

John enjoyed hunting with his family in the fall and Sunday dinners with family at the farm. He looked forward to preparing for and enjoying the family summer gathering at the farm.

John’s many acres of land were his pride and joy and sharing it with the next generation of family was important to him. He especially loved sharing the view from atop Big Baldy.

He was a Charter Member of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus Council #6443.

John will be remembered by his siblings; Carol (Bob) Hulla, Leo (Lynn) Gartner, Rose (Jim) Higgins, Ann (Greg) Lempola, Dennis (Renee) Gartner, Roger (Patty) Gartner, Bernie (Tracy) Gartner, and George (Heather) Gartner, and many nieces and nephews who were very fond of Uncle Johnny.

Also remembered by Uncle Alex Schroeder and Aunt Sister Carol Jean Schroeder, OSB, and many cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha Gartner, Nephew, Scott W Gartner, Brother-in-Law, Jerry Weiss.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 5-7pm at Jones Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.
