Garry Vincent Gartner, a devoted family man and dedicated professional, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Calgary at the age of 63. Born on February 27, 1962, in Edmonton, Garry spent his childhood there until he moved to Calgary around the age of 12, where he would continue to build a life filled with meaningful connections and cherished memories.

For nearly four decades, Garry contributed his commitment and expertise to CP Rail, becoming a well-respected figure within the organization. His career not only showcased his work ethic but also reflected his generous nature, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Friends and colleagues alike admired him for his considerate demeanor and the genuine concern he showed for others.

Family was at the heart of Garry’s life, and he took immense joy in the time spent with his loved ones. He found great happiness in the everyday moments shared with his grandchildren, engaging in a variety of activities such as bowling and visits to playgrounds. His spirit and dedication to family will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Garry's passions extended beyond his family and career; he had a keen interest in motorcycles, having acquired a small collection that he took pride in. This hobby allowed him to express his adventurous side and connect with others who shared similar interests.

Garry is survived by his partner, Monique Kovacs; his step-children, Adam and Lana (Chad); and his two step-grandchildren, Boston and Floyd. He is also survived by his siblings, Brian (Agnes) Gartner, Desiree (Robert) Gendron, and Tara (Mike) Zygmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona; and his brother, Dennis Gartner. Garry's legacy will continue to live on through the memories shared by his family and friends, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A Celebration of Life for Garry will be held at Pierson's Funeral Service (4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Friday January 30, 2026 at 11:00am
