It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Hancock on Sunday, February 15, 2026, daughter of the late Clarence Melvin Robinson (predeceased 1952) and the late Violet Eliza Robinson (predeceased 1972) (nee Craig); sister to Allan (Andrea) Robinson and Betty (Phil) Chernoff.
Ruth was born on Thursday, May 4, 1944 and was raised in Carberry, Manitoba and Neepawa, Manitoba. Completing grade 12, Ruth then went on to work numerous jobs until moving to Calgary in 1965 with her spouse Raymond O'Brien. They shared two children together, Pam (Rick) Smit, Perry Hancock (Diana McKnight); and stepchildren Patty O'Brien (step grandchildren and great-grandchildren), Peggy O'Brien, Penny O'Brien.
In 1980, Ruth married the love of her life Donald Hancock (predeceased 1996) at which time Don adopted Pam and Perry. Also joining the family were Don's three sons Bradley Hancock, Clarke Hancock and Peter Hancock.
Ruth dedicated her career for 19 years at the Alberta Wheat Pool. Following that, she had careers working with Trinity United Church, Lifemark Physiotherapy and Forest Lawn Untied Church.
Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren Jailene (Curtis) Noseworthy, Randell (Kyle) Cloutier, Dalton (Samantha) Smit, Ciara (Cole) Hagan, Lili (Andrew) Smit, Denise (Phil) Harrington, Bryce (Krista) Hancock, Jazmyne Hancock, Blake Hancock, and as well as all her 13 great-grandchildren.
Ruth cherished her close relationship to her nieces and nephew - Lana (Roland) Kruse, Colin (Lori)Sanders, Cindy (Scott) Lanham, Kathy (Mike) Taylor; her family members, sister-in-law Cheryl (Herman) Parker, son-in-law Keith Hogenson; along with all her extended family and her dear friends.
Ruth dedicated her life to the love for church. She was very passionate about her faith and wanted many to share in the journey with her. Ruth dedicated years with the church serving in many capacities.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth has requested that donations may be made to honour her and her church. Please make your donations directly to Forest Lawn United Church, 2236 - 35 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2B 0X1.
A Memorial Service will be held for Ruth at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Forest Lawn United Church, 2236 - 35 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta with a reception to follow. Interment of Ruth's urn will take place at the Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery following the reception.
NOTE: If you are attending the service, Ruth has asked to please honour her by NOT wearing black.
