John William "Bill" Gibson, age 84, passed away on June 11, 2025,at the UT Medical Center. Born on March 2, 1941, in Tazewell, TN, he was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love to all who knew him.
Bill's early years in Tazewell laid the foundation for a life characterized by dedication to his community and an unwavering faith. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of New Tazewell, where he not only worshipped but also served as a trustee for several years. His commitment to his faith was evident in his actions and his gentle demeanor.
Bill worked as Superintendent at the Claiborne County Utility District, where he dedicated 30 years of service before his retirement. He had a great love for horses; it was a passion that illuminated his character. Bill's love extended beyond his interests and work; it was the core of his existence. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Pauline Gibson, a loving father to his daughter Kathy Gay and her husband Wesley, and a guiding light to his grandchildren Andrea Keck, Dylan Gay, Rachel Ice, Russell Ice, and Joseph Ice. He was also a cherished brother-in-law to Janet Stansberry and her husband Gary, and a treasured uncle to his many nieces and nephews, as well as a friend to countless others who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pauline, his son Rick Ice, and his parents Mont and Hazel Gibson. His legacy of love and faith continues through his family and all those who were touched by his compassionate spirit.
As we bid farewell to Bill, we celebrate the remarkable life he led and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His memory will be cherished, and his presence deeply missed. Though he has left this earthly realm, the essence of his spirit-his kindness, generosity, and his unwavering faith-will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family will receive friends Saturday June 14, 2025, at the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel from 12 noon till 2pm with funeral services to follow with the Rev. Lance Estes officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Liberty Cemetery.
