John Wyatt Gilliam Sr.

John Wyatt Gilliam, Sr., 93, of High Point, passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his home.

John was born on January 3, 1933, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late John Henry Gilliam and Josie Lee Bridges Gilliam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Josie Brower and Dorothy Brower.

John dedicated many years of faithful service to Drexel Heritage Furniture, where he built a lifelong career before retiring. He was a man who found his greatest happiness not in accomplishments, but in the quiet moments spent with those he loved most. His son and grandson were the center of his world and brought him immeasurable pride and joy.

Known for his humble spirit, gentle nature, and genuine kindness, John lived a life that reflected a deep and steady faith in the Lord. He was a devoted member of Encounter Church of High Point and found great comfort and fellowship in attending and worshiping there.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Varner Gilliam; his son, John Gilliam, Jr.; and his beloved grandson, John "Johnny" Gilliam, III. He is also survived by his cherished niece, Karen Hardwick, and her son, Jonathan. In addition, he leaves behind his sister-in-law, Brenda Chilton (Dave); brother-in-law, Doyle Varner (Kathy); sister-in-law, Linda Varner; along with many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
