John Robert Goodrum left this earth on November 23, 2025, to claim his Heavenly reward. He was born to Leonidas Oscar Goodrum Sr. and Minnie Moffatt Goodrum on November 12, 1933, in Weldon, Texas. John grew up between Weldon, Texas, Tarkington, Texas and Union, South Carolina.
As a young man, John moved to Houston and began a 40-year career with ExxonMobil. In August of 1955, John’s life changed forever when he met Barbara Joan Harris at a local Church party. Within months they were married on February 24, 1956. Over the course of almost 70 years of marriage they raised 4 children, spoiled 7 grandchildren, and cherished 13 great grandchildren. He was always quick to acknowledge his deep love for Barbara, the love of his life, all the way until his death.
John never took his focus away from his Faith. John worked as a minister at numerous Churches of Christ across South and East Texas, well into his 70’s, going wherever the need was, always answering the call. His faith, reverence, commitment, and deep Bible knowledge garnered great respect everywhere he worshipped. He never stopped praying for his family’s and friend’s faith, nothing mattered more to John.
John is preceded in death by his father, his mother, his sister, Adelia Goodrum, and his brother, Lon Goodrum, his half-brothers, Ralph and Walter Byers and Leo and Leonard Goodrum, his half-sisters, Frances Byers Copeland, Staci Goodrum Read, Becky Goodrum Harrelson, Leona Goodrum Harrelson, and Ida Goodrum Maples. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, his children Clayton (Chris), Kim (Mark), Scott (Catherine), and David. As well as his grandchildren, Philip (Chelsea), Becki (Jordan), Krista, Samuel (Hannah), John (Bethany), Spencer (Brittney), and Keller (Myka). And finally, his precious great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Cheyenne, Adalynn, Bri, Micah, Sophie, Connor, Elsie, Telia, Kennedy, Callum, Slayton, and Colter.
While John’s earthly body was ravaged by disease in his final days, he would always say “I am great, I am going to Heaven.”
John’s memorial will be held at his home congregation, College Hill Church of Christ at 7447 N. College Circle, North Richland Hills, TX 76180, on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11 AM. Services will also be livestreamed.
