John Grade Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. on Mar. 23, 2025.
John O. Grade, age 90, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, March 20, 2025, after many lengthy health issues.
John was born on October 20, 1934, in Shawano, a son of the late Robert and Ann (Phillippi) Grade. After the death of his mother when he was eight years old, John moved across the street to live with their good friends, Sally and Joe Stark, who later adopted him. John attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and later graduated from Shawano High School with the Class of 1953.
Following high school, John began his 42-year career at Consolidated Badger Coop, producer of Morning Glory Dairy Products, which eventually became Foremost Farms. After many years of hard work, John retired in 1997.
In 1959, John was united in marriage to the former Elda Hessil in Oconto Falls. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Sallijo and David. Together the family enjoyed going on countless tent camping adventures. John loved putzing around in his garage, gardening, and ice fishing.
John was a good and faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church of Red River. He was active in their red barn fundraisers and their dartball team for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elda Grade; two children, Sallijo (Kenneth) Hoffman and David Grade; grandson, Jeremy (Callie) Schultz of North Carolina; great-grandsons, Levon and Wynn Schultz; and his nieces. John was preceded in death by both sets of parents; his brother, Robert Grade; his sister, Phyllis (Ski) Holman; and his nephew.
In keeping with John's wishes, no formal service will be held.
In lieu of plants and flowers the family prefers memorials in John's name to a charity of your choice.
"The family would like to thank Caitlyn, Lisa, and the ThedaCare Hospice Team for the kind and compassionate care that John received."
"Pa, we completely agree with you, you were right!"

My condolences to cousins and Aunt Elda on your loss.

Uncle John was an expert at making tummy ticklers on the back roads. For the uninitiated, tummy ticklers are named for the feeling in our tummy as the car went ever so slightly air born at the crest of a small hill.

The best.

Loving. Kind. Loyal. Hard working. Never an unkind word crossed his lips.

God called home one of his best.
