John Willis Green, affectionately known as Mr. Green and Uncle JW, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. He was 84 years old.
Born on June 23, 1941, in Dendron, Virginia, Surry County, John Willis lived a life filled with dedication, warmth, and camaraderie. His early years in the tight-knit community of Dendron laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to service and kinship.
John Willis spent much of his professional career as a Building Service Manager with Montgomery County Public Schools, where he served with distinction at Glen Haven Elementary School, Sherwood High School, and Richard Montgomery High School. His work was characterized by an unwavering commitment to excellence and a genuine care for the students and staff he supported.
Beyond his professional endeavors, John Willis was a man of varied interests and passions. He found great joy in playing cards, immersing himself in the world of westerns, and cooking hearty meals for loved ones. A devoted fan of football, he followed the fortunes of the team now known as the Washington Commanders with steadfast loyalty. John Willis was also an enthusiastic traveler, an avid bowler, and cherished spending time with family and friends.
A valued member of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, John Willis embraced the principles of friendship, love, and truth that the organization embodies. His presence brought light to every gathering, and his humor and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
As we remember John Willis Green, let us celebrate his enduring spirit and the many lives he touched during his 84 years. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those privileged to share in his remarkable journey.
