Dan was born In McMinnville, Oregon to Ray Green and Ruby Lowry Green. Growing up he lived in several small towns in Oregon as his mother, Ruby was a pastor in several small Oregon Churches. She moved to Portland when Dan was in grade school and purchased a large house in 1941 and began a boardinghouse for people who came to the area to work in the shipyards. World War II had begun and housing was a critical need. He did all he could to help with her endeavor while going to school. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1949. He worked at the Gaylord's Grocery Store during his school years. Dan was drafted into the US Army in March of 1951 and served until March of 1953. After his service he returned to Gaylords and soon advanced to mgr.

In June of 1953 he met Betty Ann Traut at the Rose Festival Parade. They were married September 13, 1953 in Girard, Pa. They returned to Portland and lived in NE Portland near his work. When the store was sold he went to work for Nalley's as a salesman. A friend suggested he explore insurance sales and he began a 10 year career with New York Life Insurance. Always loving to drive he applied in 1975 to be a bus driver and began his 20 years driving career at Tri-Met. He loved his job and was chosen "Driver of the Month" twice. Dan retired in 1995, and soon after he and Betty Ann moved from Beaverton to Hillsboro.

Dan always gave his all to everyone. He was a loving father to his 3 kids and 15 foster children. He loved to hunt and play golf but as he grew older those hobbies were given up.

He was an active member of Woodlawn UMC in Portland and Christ United Methodist Church in Beaverton. He greeted and ushered, and co-taught Sunday school with Betty Ann. He was on the finance committees and always willing to do any job in the church that needed him. He delivered "Meals on Wheels" for 40 years. He lived by the creed "It is more blessed to give than to receive".

A celebration of Dan's life will be held at at 2pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Cedar Mill Christ United Methodist Church. 12755 NW Dogwood Ave. Portland, OR 97229.
