John Mark Gresham, a beloved man, passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 75 in Sugar Land, TX. Born on January 18, 1949, in Wharton to the late William Wales Gresham and Adonia Fleury Gresham.
Mark was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in1967 and received several bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He married Carol Ann Kughn Gresham on August 30, 1996, in Wharton TX, she preceded him in death in 2019. Mark had a deep love for the land and all its creatures, finding joy in sitting on the porch, tending to his dogs and cows, and leisurely drives through the countryside. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Gresham and brother, Norman Gresham.
Survived by his daughters Amy Gresham Ybarra and husband, Jonas of Wharton, Jennifer Schulz Jackson and husband, Dusty of Rock Island, Lori Schulz Hyde and husband, Clint of El Campo, and Savannah Gresham; sister, Susie Fults and husband, Buddy of Austin; grandchildren, Jacob William Schulz , Jessica JoAnn Hart, Kevin Joseph Krpec, Gavin Wayne Krpec, James Ybarra, Juliette Ybarra and Shane Tyler Ryan, Archer Hyde, Gavin Hyde, Dream Hyde, Julie Hart; great grandchildren Colby William Schulz, Teresa Krpec, Jackson Krpec, Kameron Evan, Elizabeth Evans and Colton Hayes.
Mark leaves behind a legacy of hard work, passion for the land, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. His daughter fondly recalls the memories of their slow-paced road trips, characterized by their shared love for exploration and history.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5th, 2024, after 5 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services to honor Mark’s life and legacy will be held at the Wharton Funeral Home on August 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Gina Gile officiating. Following the church service, a burial ceremony will take place at the Wharton Cemetery. Reception will be at the Wharton Country Club.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Bill Ansley, Leroy Bacak, Max Barbee, Ryan Cartwright, Gordon Franklin, Abel Gonzales, Alan Morgan and Paul Nielsen.
Honorary Pallbearers:
Robert Cline Sr., Micheal Mann and Steve Phillippi.
