John Guhl Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Torbert Funeral Chapels on Feb. 12, 2026.
John Edward Guhl, 63, passed away on February 8, 2026, at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, Delaware, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on August 1, 1962, in Wilmington, Delaware. He grew up in Newark, Delaware, spending many nights cruising down Main Street causing a little ruckus in one of his many Chevelles. He later moved to Bear, Delaware, with his wife, where they raised their family.

John spent 24 years as a foreman at Iron Hill Pallet Inc. in Newark before spending a few years dabbling in truck driving and tree removal. In 2008, he became disabled.

In 2018, John and his wife Robin fulfilled the Delaware dream and moved to the beach full time after many years as part time visitors to Indian River Inlet Campground and Bayshore Campground. They settled in Long Neck, Delaware, where they remained.

John was an avid NASCAR fan, faithfully following his idol, Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was also a diehard Washington Redskins fan, cheering them on through decades of highs and lows, mostly lows, but he never gave up hope. He loved fishing at the inlet or on 3Rs with his brother Tommy, even though most days they never caught more than a buzz. Most recently, he could be found cruising around on his golf cart at Paradise Grill, spending time with his favorite bar friends who became family, being ornery with that unmistakable twinkle in his eye and grin on his face. Still, nothing made him happier than time spent with his family, his grandchildren, and his dog, Scrappy.

John will be deeply missed by his loving family, including his wife and love of his life, Robin, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage, building a life filled with love and laughter. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristina Tidwell and her husband Joseph Tidwell, and his son, John Guhl and his partner Ryan Miller. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Austin Tidwell, Christopher Tidwell, Kayla Tidwell, and Parker Guhl. He is also survived by his siblings James Leroy Guhl, Virginia Woods (Don), and David Guhl (Laurie), as well as his sisters in law Joan Long and Dana Guhl, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy James Guhl (1981) and Catherine Elizabeth Guhl (1997). He was also preceded in death by his father in law, Donald Long Sr. (2011), his mother in law, Irene Long (2000), his first born son, John Edward Guhl Jr. (1985), his brother in law, Arty Long (2014), and his best friend and brother, Thomas Guhl (2025).

Services will be private.
