John D Gunn Jr

12/18/1948 - 3/10/2026

John D. Gunn, Jr of Lakewood, Ohio passed away at home on March 10, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones and caregivers after a long illness.

He fought the good fight with his signature dignity, grace, and humor and always a kind word for his caregivers and loving supporters.

John is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 25 years, Dorothy, (nee Callaghan) and his two sons, Timothy (Ashley) and Joseph (Christine) Gunn. His cherished grandchildren Haley, Allison, Hannah and Ryan were the light of his life and always a source of his greatest pride. He is preceded in death by his parents, John (Jack) and Beverly Gunn (nee Cousineau).

After graduating from St. Ignatius High School and Allegheny College, John ran the family business for 50 years. The company had been founded in 1930 by his grandfather who rebuilt the industrial scale company in the midst of the Great Depression. Ohio Counting Scale served Cleveland's large manufacturing base and expanded and diversified over the years, with the help of John's two sons, to become the company now known as OCS Technologies. Many longstanding OCS employees remain and continue to revere John for his humble and compassionate leadership even after his retirement.

In his lifetime, John was defined by his loving and giving spirit. His kindness. His integrity. His gratitude for all of his blessings. His love of family and friends. In fact, his two best friends, Tim and George, likely greeted him upon his arrival on the other side with the three of them reuniting on the most heavenly sun-drenched golf course you could imagine. After a life so well-lived, sweet bliss is what we all wish for him now.

One of his new caregivers recently summed it up beautifully when she sat at his bedside and said to John, "How could anybody not love you, John Gunn?"

A memorial service where all are welcome will be held in the coming weeks with a date and location published as soon as plans are finalized.
