John Haasjes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Angels Cremation Center - Bakersfield on Dec. 12, 2025.
JOHN BURTON HAASJES May 11, 1964 - November 14, 2025
John Burton Haasjes, born on May 11, 1964, in Glendale, California, passed away at the age of 61 on November 14, 2025, in Bakersfield, California, after a tragic accident in Tehachapi. He was a man of wonder, humor, and courage, whose life was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit trying to understand.
John grew up in Woodland Hills and lived there with his family. His father was Fredrick Haasjes, his mother was Margaretha Haasjes, and his brother was Murray (Michael) Edward Haasjes. He still has two living aunts (Josephine Siedenburg and Annika Schoew), multiple cousins and nieces spread across California, Tennessee, and the Netherlands. His Christian faith was the turning point of his life, providing him comfort and guidance through the last year of his life.
Those who knew John best will remember him for his infectious laughter and childlike nature. He had a unique ability to find joy in the simplest of things, particularly in the beauty of nature. John's love for the weather-rainfall, snow, and wind-was more than a passing interest; it was a profound appreciation for the world around him. He found solace and inspiration in places like Tehachapi and Frazier Park, and cherished memories of his trips to Yosemite with his uncle and cousins when they were little.
John's community in Tehachapi held a special place in his heart. He found many friends there who embraced him with friendship, love, and unconditional positive regard. They recognized that John struggled to understand a world that wasn't always kind, so they surrounded him with mercy and kindness. A heartfelt thank you goes to Scott and Lisa Peck for always having their home open to John, and a special shout out to Steve Peck, Wilma, and Kimberly for sharing the Lord with him. Last but not least, a special thank you to Katje Siedenburg for always helping out with both John and his mama with no thought of anything but just helping a person in need.
His courage in the face of adversity, his ability to make people laugh, and his unwavering spirit are the legacies that John leaves behind. As Helen Keller once said, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." John embodied this sentiment, overcoming challenges with grace and humor.
John's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. He lived a life that was full, not of years, but of moments that remind us of the beauty in the world and the kindness in people.
We bid farewell to John Burton Haasjes, a man who was not only cherished by his family but also by the many friends who were fortunate enough to know him. His journey on earth may have come to an end, but his spirit will remain with us, as will the laughter and joy he shared so generously. Rest in peace, John, and know that we will miss you deeply.
