John Wesley Hackney March 20, 1966 – January 4, 2025

John Wesley Hackney, 58, of Farmville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on January 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 20, 1966, in Farmville, Wesley was a proud Navy veteran who served his country with honor, dedicating himself to protecting our freedoms. After his service, he worked for 25 years as a skilled trades technician at Longwood University, a place that became like a second home to him. His passion for basketball led him to work the shot clock for Longwood Basketball games, where he was a fixture of the sidelines and a loyal supporter of the team. An avid sports fan, Wesley cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Lakers, often sharing his enthusiasm with those around him. He was a jokester at heart, always ready with a laugh or a playful remark to brighten someone’s day. Wesley loved spending time with his family, especially during cherished beach vacations that created lifelong memories.

Wesley is survived by his wife Tammie Jo Hackney; son, John Michael Hackney; his parents, Laura J. Hogan and John W. Hackney; and his brothers, Mike Hogan, Leslie Hackney, and Aiden Hackney.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville. A funeral service to celebrate his life will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, also at Puckett Funeral Home. Wesley’s kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
