Nubbin’ was born on May 29, 1945, in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on May 15, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center of Monroe, Louisiana.
Mr. Harrell was affectionately known as “Nubbin” by all who knew him. He spent his whole life in the Twin Cities. Before retirement, he dedicated his life to the family cookie business and loved his “real” job of entertaining clients with hunting and fishing stories. After retirement from the family business, Harrell Neck Distributing Corporation was sold to Kellogg’s of Battle Creek. Nubbin’ was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent most of his days either on the water or in the woods. He is leaving behind his beloved hunting club, Shelby Point Hunting Club, many tall tales were told on that porch. He loved his “quiet time” at his deer camp and he would spend months getting it ready for the next season. Nubbin’ was a remarkable soul who cherished his family above all else. His love and kindness created a warmth that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love, laughter, and devotion remains.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Molly Harrell; parents, Margaret and Oscar Harrell; and precious granddaughter, Abby Harrell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, John Mitchell Harrell, Jr. (Lynn) and Michael Harrell (Angela); grandchildren, Jessica Temples (Trent) and Ashtyn Barr (Lee); great grandchildren, Avery Temples and Brandon Barr; sister, Susan Harrell Neck; stepdaughters, Casey Smith (Gary) and Kelly Hilliard (Clay); step grandchildren, Ainsley Collier, Molly Smith, Julia Hilliard and Sarah Hilliard; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and cherished friends.
The pallbearers will be Kevin Craighead, Jeff Obier, Ricky McMullen, Brian “B.L.” Smith, and Ike Stokes. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelby Curry, Terry Moore, and Chris Nolan.
