John J. Harrington, 84, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Wednesday after a brief illness. His wife of 62 years is the former Anne Marie Reuther.

Son of the late John and Nora Glenn Harrington, he was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish until its closing and later St. Ann's Basilica.

Jack worked side by side with his wife Anne and son Jackie at Harrington Beer Distributors in Minooka for more than 60 years. He loved going to work every day and always took good care of his customers. He attended daily Mass at 6:30 every morning at St. Peter's Cathedral. An ardent sports fan, especially the Philadelphia Phillies, Jack was one of the original season ticketholders for the Red Barons prior to the building of their stadium in Moosic.

He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, customers and friends.

He is also survived by a son, Jack and wife, Cathy; four granddaughters, Colleen and husband, Michael Kelly; Christin and husband, William Bender Jr.; Erin and husband, Steve Shumbres; and Kelly and husband, David Trapper; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward and wife, Nancy Harrington; brother-in-law, Leo Kennedy; sister-in-law, Esther Gerrity Reuther; extended family, John Kennedy, Patricia Kennedy, Maureen Kennedy May and all of the "graduates" of Harrington Beer Distributor, especially Joseph Barrett, Joseph Gilhooley and Michael McLane.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Basilica, 1233 St. Ann's St., Saturday at 1:30 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Siby John, C.P. Interment will be private at Cathedral Cemetery. Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Anees Fogley and the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the kind and compassionate care they provided throughout his illness.
