John Harrington Obituary

John "Jack" Edward Harrington
June 13, 1944 – December 7, 2025
John "Jack" Edward Harrington passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by quiet strength, steadfast compassion, and a lifelong commitment to helping others. Born on June 13, 1944, to Patrick Harrington and Loretta Driscoll, Jack was raised alongside his beloved sisters, Mary Margaret (Marcel Beland), Patricia Harrington (John Hooper), and Kathleen Nolan. He remained deeply connected to his family roots throughout his life.
Jack attended St. Agatha School, graduating with the Class of 1963. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Private First Class (E-2). He served from October 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1966, carrying with him a deep sense of duty and respect for those who serve.
Following his military service, Jack worked at the Ford Motor Company's Rouge Plant. He continued his education at Central Michigan University before beginning a 35+ year career marked by diligence and integrity as a probation officer for Wayne County, The State of Michigan, and Oakland County. His work in probation became one of the great callings of his life. Jack took immense pride in offering guidance, stability, and hope to those who often had nowhere else to turn. He was profoundly grateful for the opportunity to help people change the direction of their lives.
In 1974, Jack married Ann Roemer, beginning more than five decades of partnership, devotion, and shared family life. Together they raised two sons, Sean (Amy), and Brendan (Emily). Jack cherished being a father, and later, a grandfather. He took tremendous joy in his grandchildren: Logan (Sophia), Henry, Margot, and Sam. His pride in them was unmistakable, and his love was constant.
After retiring, Jack continued living a life of service, giving his time and energy to causes close to his heart. He contributed meaningfully to the Portrait Project from 2011 to 2019, worked security at the Spring Training complex for the New York Mets, delivered Meals on Wheels annually, and lent his hands and spirit to Habitat for Humanity. His dedication to others did not end with his career-it was woven into every stage of his life.
Jack thoroughly enjoyed High School sports, Detroit professional sports, Michigan State football and basketball, and the never realized pursuit of mastering the game of golf.
He will be remembered for his humility, his warmth, and his deep belief in the power of second chances. Whether through his work, his volunteer efforts, or his unwavering commitment to family, he touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of compassion and quiet heroism.
Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
