John P. Harrington Sr., 71, resident of Pownal, VT passed away on December 10, 2025.

John was born on July 5, 1954 to the late Peter and Viola (Roucoulet) Harrington in Bennington, VT. He was one of four children. After receiving his education, John began his career working at Grants, a merchandise department store in the shipping and receiving department. He also worked for a few construction contractors, was a temporary employee at Mack Molding, and worked several years at H. Greenberg & Sons in the shipping and receiving department as a hard-working dedicated employee until the store closed. John then worked at Six Flags Great Escape for a few years until retirement. John was a past member of Bennington Rural Fire Department Company #3 and held several different officer positions.

In his free time, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping for many, many years. Recently, he went on a three-day hunting trip with his nephew, Justin Woodward, and remarked on how much fun the excursion was. John enjoyed taking rides to Somerset, VT and driving along Mount Anthony Road. He also enjoyed camping with his family, most namely at Alpine Lake with his sister and brother-in-law. John also enjoyed paying visits to Stewarts and getting his morning cup of coffee. His family and friends were so important to him, and he always made an effort to keep up to date in their lives. John always had a great sense of humor and was always making jokes. Throughout his life, John was a devoted pet owner – Sneakers the beagle was highly cherished by him and his two special cats, Able and Oliver, along with several other pets.

John is survived by his siblings, Nick Harrington (Judy Mears), and Rose Zappone (Jim). His one son, John Harrington Jr. (Chrystle). Two grandchildren, Caleb Harrington and Justin Harrington. As well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Viola Harrington. A brother, Peter Harrington Jr., and a nephew Peter Harrington, III.

Services will be held in the Spring of 2026 at the convenience of the family.
