John "Tommy" Harris, 83
Tommy was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Louis C. Harris Jr. and Alma Faye Secrest of Fort Pierce, FL. He spent his life residing in Fort Pierce.
Tommy graduated from Dan McCarty High School. In 1965, he married Mary Katherine "Kitty" Mahaffey. They raised their son, Cal, welcomed his friends, and participated actively in their community. Tommy worked with the St. Lucie County Fire Department, serving in various positions including EMT, fireman, and Fire Marshall.
Following his retirement, Tommy pursued a business in fishing, working as a charter captain and making custom rods. Tommy and Kitty traveled, camped, and RVed across the United States, often accompanied by their friends and Weimaraner dogs Fritz and Brandy.
Tommy valued his relationships with friends and family. He is survived by his son Cal (Christine) Harris; brother Pat (Patty) Harris; sisters Faye Monk, Cynde (Gerald) Diminovich, and Carla Ann (Bill) Orcutt. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren Katie (Brian), Trappy, Allie (Marshall) Fulton, and Clarissa Bell; four great-grandchildren; three nephews and two nieces. He was affiliated with Indian River Presbyterian Church and local Masonic Orders.
A funeral service will be held on July 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. Lucie County Fire Department Union Hall located at 11201 West Midway Road Fort Pierce 34945.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Lucie County Benevolent Firefighters Association.
