John Hayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sisco Funeral Chapel - Springdale on May 1, 2025.
John Robert "JR" Hayes, Sr., 86, of Elkins, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville. Born on October 14, 1938, in Linden, Texas, to Franklin Glenn Hayes and Allie Lee Floyd Hayes, JR lived a vibrant life filled with family, community, and service.
JR was a farmer at heart, a storyteller with an infectious warmth, and a friend to all. Known for never meeting a stranger, he built connections wherever he went, often sharing tales that brought laughter and joy. For over 30 years, he owned and operated JR's Wrecker Service, a business that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to helping others. He attended Round Mountain Community Church. JR's values shone through in his respect for others and the lessons he imparted to his children and grandchildren, teaching them to say "yes, sir" and "no, sir" as a mark of good manners.
JR found joy in life's simple pleasures. In his younger years, he loved riding horses, and he was a passionate supporter of softball, proudly organizing the JR's Wrecker Service Softball team. Above all, he cherished his family, never missing an opportunity to cheer at his grandchildren's ball games, where his presence was a source of love and encouragement.
JR was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Hayes; his son, Rufus Lee Hayes; his parents; his son-in-law, Edmond "Eddie" Clark a.k.a. Reindeer; eleven brothers; and two sisters.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by his daughter, Robin Clark of Berryville; his son, John Robert "Doc" Hayes, Jr., and wife Roxanne; six grandchildren: Brittney Gulley (Anthony), LaiLani Welsh, Tiffney Gentry, Justin Hayes (Kerry), Kelley Deatherage (Ashley), and Courtney Smith (Isiah); seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale, with Pastor Tim Beers officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, offering a time for family and friends to gather and honor JR's remarkable life.
