John W. Helms

John W. Helms age 82 of Rocky Mount (Boones Mill) went home to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. John was born on December 16, 1941 a son of the late Lt. Col. George J. and Adelaide Hartfelder Helms. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Steven L. Helms. He graduated from Franklin County High School in 1960 and proudly served his country and retired from the U. S. Army an E7 SFC after 22 years of dedicated service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joyce Sharp Helms; his sons, Tom Helms and Tim Helms; daughter, Jenny Williams (Matt); granddaughters, Natalie and Sydney Helms; grandsons, Nate and Dylan Mullins; sisters, Georginia Chrisman (Keith), Addie Lang (Dick), Connie Blair (Andy); sister-in-law, Valerie (Gigi) Helms. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to Gentiva Hospice especially Melissa and Nicole for their loving and professional care shown and given to John and his family.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor James H. Steele and Pastor Bob Greene officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In recognition of his service to our country, Military Honors will be presented in his honor for his service to our country. 

It was John's wish to help others and he donated his body to Anatomy Gifts Registry in hopes of helping others. The family will accept flowers or for those desiring to help others as John did, please consider memorial contributions in John's name to Anatomy Gifts Registry (AGR), Donor a
