We bid farewell to our husband and father John who departed from this world on Sunday February 16, 2025 at the age of 88. A pillar of strength and beacon of love, his absence leaves a void in our heart. Born on February 26, 1936, in Dixon, Illinois, John lived a life marked by hard work, love, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.
John’s robust career spanned over three decades at Kelly Springfield Tire, where he worked diligently from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. As a proud union member, he understood the value of solidarity in the workplace. During his retirement, he worked at Apple Canyon Lake Recycling Center in his free time.
An honorable United States Army veteran, John served his country with pride. His commitment to duty and service remained a valued part of his identity throughout his life.
Outside of work, John was an enthusiastic lover of the outdoors. He cherished moments spent camping, fishing, skeet shooting, and boating. His passions extended to sports, where he found joy in being an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Nascar.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Rugene (Geri), and their loving children: Tom (Janet) Vrana, Susan Vrana, Sylvia (Janice) Cirilo, and Denise Mijangos. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, whose lives he touched deeply with his warmth and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation in honor of John’s life will be held on February 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Homes in Freeport, Illinois. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, celebrating the life of a remarkable man who will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is set for Apple Canyon Lake Security for all the help and support.
