Jack was born on the Southside of Chicago and grew up in Saint Sabina parish. He attended St. Bede Academy and Leo High School. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Ambrose University and a Masters Degree at Loyola University. Jack was well respected during his 50 year career in industrial and commercial real estate. Jack's passion for environmentalism included being a founding member of Scenic Illinois. He was also a volunteer with Friends of the Cook County Forest Preserves. He was an advocate of native landscapes including his 10,000sf wildflower meadow in which he took immense pride. He was a true friend of many and made all who knew him feel cherished and special. Jack was very thankful for the many years of compassionate care he received by the doctors, nurses and staff at Loyola hospital.

Above all, his greatest joy was his family, his friends and a life full of continual adventures and storytelling. Jack was the official family photographer and historian. He was devoted to his extended family. Jack was always ready to celebrate life and will be remembered for his smile and the genuine happiness he brought to all.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at LaGrange Country Club, 620 S. Brainard Ave., LaGrange at 3pm with a service at 4pm followed by cocktails and hors-d'oeuvres. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations to The Mend a Heart Foundation (mendaheart.org) in his memory would be appreciated.

Jack was my favorite colleague at Marriott Lodging in the late `80s and especially afterwards when he took me on a wonderful trip westward on The Lincoln Highway!
His humor and storytelling made me feel like I was traveling with Hemingway as he chatted up many of the local residents along that wonderful, historic Lincoln Highway Adventure! What a wonderful character he was! I will always treasure the rare moments we had and being his friend from 1987 to 2022. I love and miss you Jack!
Respectfully,
Jon Jaynes

Dear Sheila...it was my good fortune to reconnect with Jack, thanks to the Quinlan & Fabish real estate transaction. It gave me the opportunity to get to know him from a totally different perspective...to share his unique interests, his family travels and adventures and his sincere friendship. It is not easy to put this into words, the best that I can do is "Jack is a character who has character!" I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family...Sincerely, Joe.

Dear Sheila and family,
We were so saddened to hear of Jack's sudden passing. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you all since we heard the news. We have many fond memories of our time at the Fairway Club with Jack as our neighbor and friend. He was truly a unique person. We remember working side by side with him as his dream of a wildflower garden began probably 15 years ago.. He worked tirelessly year after year and was able to see his dream materialize. Jack never hesitated to pursue a passion. Even after we moved away 6 years ago, we would enjoy an occasional summer evening visit sitting on his patio to admire "his " creation.
He cherished Sheila and his family and we will miss him as well as will many more.

Sheila and family I was so sorry to hear of Jack´s passing. He was quite the character. This past year he drove up to Lebanon to see my brothers Mark and John. I joined them at the Granary where he wanted to make sure the stone he gave to the boys was on display. He entertained us with many stories. May memories live on in your hearts and in time bring you peace.. Maureen Egan

Dear Sheila and family,

I was saddened to see that Jack had passed. We were friends at St. Ambrose and he chauffeured me home many times in his '56 Chevy.

Somehow we made it home during the big snow of 1967. We rode in the tracks of the trucks in front of us. Then one spring we came home in a storm and the driver's side wiper didn't work. So I had the idea to tie a rope from his wiper across the front of the car and through the no-draft window on my side. As we gained speed , the wiper would blow across the windshield and I would pull it down. It actually worked! My arm was a bit tired however. That storm turned out to be the tornado that went through Oak Lawn.

I saw him on occasion through the years and we always talked about those trips.

I know he will be missed.

Sincerely,

Tom Zidlicky

Joie de vivre, like he invented it. Grand tours on roads less traveled, stopping where time stands still, that was Jack´s route. The enthusiasms, adventures, courage and the sense of humor, laugh out loud moments that are unforgettable. You didn´t do a long good-bye and the swift departure is hard on your beloveds, but no one deserved a gentle exit more than you. Your memory is a blessing.
