John Joseph Herkert, 76, of Victoria, Va and formerly of Monroe Township, New Jersey escaped to Heaven on September 23, 2025. He was the son of the late Edward J. Herkert and Irma Herkert.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janet M. Jeffrey Herkert; his children, John R. Herkert (Jen) and Jeffrey Curtis (Christin), all of New Jersey; Jennifer Herkert of Indiana and other children, Kim Herkert and Alan Herkert. Also surviving are his sister, Linda Offenburger (Art) of New Jersey; brothers, Tom Herkert (Kathy) and Tim Herkert (Karen) all of New Jersey. John grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Jamesburg High School. He worked for many years as a general contractor alongside his dad and brothers, later working for himself. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking care of his property and just sitting on the porch enjoying nature and his family.
He will always be remembered for his generous spirit.
A celebration of his life will be held 2 PM Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Victoria Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Victoria, Va. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to the Victoria Evangelical Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 95, Victoria, Va. 23974
