John D. Hibdon, 77, of Stover, Missouri, passed peacefully after a brief illness, September 21, 2025. He leaves behind a trail of memories and a legacy of kindness, tenderness, and laughter that will never fade. John brightened the world with his humor, generosity, and the love he shared with family and friends. John married his loving wife and best friend, Cheryl Motter Hibdon, on March 17, 1967. Together they shared almost 60 wonderful years. John worked as a welder for RMF Steel and was admired for his dedication and hard work. He was also a very accomplished self-taught carpenter, electrician, and plumber and skilled in building, repairing, and creating with his hands. He loved fishing, hunting, sports, and classic western movies. An accomplished outdoorsman John participated in and won a few fishing tournaments. He was also recognized by the State of Missouri's Big Bucks Club for his trophy deer. Above all, John will be remembered for his devotion to his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored and for the deep love he shared with Cheryl. A man of integrity and honesty, John was gentle, good-humored, and quietly strong. He said he had lived a wonderful life. He and Cheryl welcomed many into their home, offering care and hospitality to family and friends who needed a place to stay. John is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sons Michael Hibdon and John Hibdon (Megan); grandchildren Heather and Richard Carpenter, Holly Hibdon, Cody Hibdon, and Ciara Johnson; great-grandchildren Heaven, Ava, Olivia, and Isaiah Carpenter; Dillon Wooley and Kenjen Killibrew, many of whom he lovingly taught to fish and hunt. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Hibdon (Kay) of Stover; sisters Joyce Blue of Raytown, Missouri and Janice Sidebottom of Eldon, Missouri; sisters-in-law Dawn Stanley (Charlie) of Angleton, Texas, Karen McGreer of Medford, New Jersey, and Vicki Brown (Doug) of Lawrence, Kansas; brother-in-law Mike Gaeta of Palm Desert, California; and Nancy Hibdon of Stover, Missouri. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished him as a pillar of strength, and a source of endless laughter and love, with some even holding him in their hearts as a father figure. John was preceded in death by his parents, Dorce and Willie Allen Hibdon; siblings Jim, Joe, Judy, and Jane; grandson Kendrick Killibrew; sister-in-law Joyce Gaeta; and father-in-law Eual Motter. The family wishes to thank Lake Regional Hospice for their compassionate care, and Nancy Hibdon and Jimmie Joe Hibdon for their love and always being there at a moment's notice. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rock Brook Church, 1715 E. 173rd Street, Belton, Missouri on Sunday, October 12th at 2 p.m. with lunch to follow.
