In Loving Memory Of
John Allen Hickok SR

John Allen Hickok was born on June 22, 1947 in Gloversville, NY. John was born to his parents, Iva Elaine Smith and Jack LaVerne Hickok. He was the oldest of four brothers, Charles (also known as Chuck), Craig, Thomas, Richard, and one sister, Roselynn.
John had a challenging childhood. He took care of his siblings and his mother religiously. His love and compassion for his family were always at the forefront of his priorities and that continues on even today.
John loved being outdoors and he enjoyed sharing many stories of shenanigans with his brothers and friends from his youth. One such story, was from when he convinced his babysitter to give he and his brothers Mohawk haircuts while their mother was at work. She was angry when she got home!
He graduated from Gloversville High School on June 26th, 1967 and he joined the Navy on January 19th of that same year. He served in the Navy for three years and was an aircraft mechanic on the USS Kittyhawk and the Hornet. The Hornet was the Essex-class aircraft carrier ship that picked up the astronauts from Apollo 11 after the moon landing in 1969. John helped retrieve the astronauts and was able to shake their hands. He received a coin and medallion and was even able to get one for each of his siblings.
John married Sari Lynn Dobozy on May 22, 1978. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Dawn Marie Dobozy, and John Allen Hickok Jr.
He worked as a sheet metal worker in Anaheim, CA after his service to the Navy. After that, he began working for the city as a driving instructor, and as a paper route driver. Later, he moved back to Gloversville, NY and worked as a bus driver: driving busses, vans, and coaches. He was driving when the twin towers got hit.
John moved to Vancouver, WA in July, 2002 to watch his son get married to Savannah Marie Every. Sari Lynn passed on December 25, 2004.
He lived for his children and grandchildren. He was the kind of man who would be the last one off, if a ship went down. He was a protector and he was generous with his love.
John loved singing TLC on the radio and he loved blasting Salt-N-Pepa "Push It Real Good" and singing at the top of his lungs. He enjoyed working on cars. His dream car was a 1957 Chevy Belair. He loved baseball. New York Yankees all the way! He was also a big football fan. He liked the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bill's. He also loved the History channel. He'd watch it 24/7 if there wasn't a game on.
He was an avid milk and Chips Ahoy Enthusiast. And he also loved Tootsie Pops!
John is survived by his children, Dawn Marie Dobozy and John Allen Hickok Jr., his grandchildren, Devin Dobozy, Trinity Hickok, John Hickok III, Samantha Hickok, and Adalynn Hickok.
The family will be honoring John's wishes to be laid to rest with his wife and soulmate in Seaside, Oregon. His memory and legacy will live on in our hearts and in our lives.
