John S. Hill

August 10, 1942 – May 30, 2025

John S. Hill, 82, of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on May 30, 2025.

John was born on August 10, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and the National Guard. On January 7, 1978, he married the love of his life, Joyce, and together they built a large, loving family.

John worked as a heavy machine operator for Hopkins Trucking, where his hard work and dedication were admired by many. Outside of work, he found joy in the simple things-archery, fishing, deer hunting, and woodworking in Grandpa's workshop, where he spent many hours crafting with care and skill.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Hill; his children John I. (Penny) Hill, Kevin Hill, Debra (Scott) Hinde, Matt (Penny) Hill, Victoria (Dave) Stover, and Kelli Edson (Chad Hansen); stepson Troy Harrison and stepdaughter JoLynn Harrison; grandchildren Nathan Hill, Jacob Hill, Krysta Hill, Brent Hinde, Melissa Heeren, Jessi Hill, Jamie Simpson, Shelby Hill, Marissa Stover, Christina Large, Michael Weltzin, Tanner Smith, Taylor Smith, Halie Edson, Dylan Stalter and Maysie Edson; and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered with love by many other family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Betty Hill; stepfather, Bob Neely; grandsons Jermey and Anthony Hill; his brother, Leroy Hill; and his faithful best friend, Lady, the family dog.

A private graveside service is planned for family only.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength, kindness, and the life he built with and for those he loved.
