John was a great barber. He will be missed by the many customers her had throughout the years. RIP

Phillip Clayton Howard ( Grandson of Margie Clayton Howard)

Working on this farm goes all the way back generations in my family. My grandmother, Margie Howard, helped the Hipps on the farm sometime between 1952 and 1965. My daddy, Bruce Howard, used to get his hair cut at the Hipp barbershop when he was just a kid. That tradition was passed down to me when I was young - and from then on, getting a haircut from the Hipps became something special, something that tied our families together.
I still remember sitting in Johnny´s chair in middle school, getting flat top after flat top. Man, I thought I looked sharp! Later on, when I joined JROTC in high school, I kept going to Johnny for mostly all my haircuts and if John was busy I got it from DJ. It wasn´t just about the haircut - it was about the conversations, the laughs, and the lessons learned in that little shop.
Fast forward to around 2011 or 2012, when my mother was facing some serious health problems. During one of the hardest times in my life, Johnny and his son Darren took me under their wing. They taught me what true work ethic really means - not just how to work hard, but how to take pride in what you do, to finish the job right, and to carry yourself with integrity.
Darren helped me get my very first buck - an 11-point non-typical right here in Rowan County, NC. I´ll never forget the look on Johnny´s face when I brought that deer back to the farm. He was proud of me - and that meant the world. From then on, I worked on that farm to my absolute max, giving everything I had, because I just wanted to make Johnny proud.
Johnny wasn´t just my best friend´s dad. He was family - like a grandfather to me. He helped shape the man I am today, and his influence will stay with me for the rest of my life. I´ll always carry the lessons he taught me - about hard work, respect, and love for the land.
Johnny Hipp will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in every person he touched, every young man he guided, and every acre of that farm that still holds his spirit.

It brings a lot of sadness to hear of John leaving us. My sincere condolences to the family. John and his family were like the "big brothers" that I never had. We made our first, and many more trips to Colorado elk hunting. I´ll always be thankful for the Hipp family teaching me so much about farming and getting me started in the cattle business. I lost touch with a lot of people when I moved to Colorado in 2005, but I´ll always be thankful for being able to grow up with the Hipp family.

Darren and family, so sorry for your loss. John may be a little late getting to heaven because I'm sure he'll want to go by the coast and catch another big drum.
