RUTLAND - John P. Honan, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13th at Blaire House of Milford following a period of declining health.
He is survived by two brothers, Brian Honan and his wife Mary of New York City, and Kevin Honan of Rutland; nephews, Peter and his wife Katie, and their daughter Vivian of New Orleans, Vincent Honan of New York City, and Jack Honan of Narragansett, RI, and a niece Grace, currently studying in Edinburgh, Scotland.
John was born and raised in Rutland, son of the late Patrick Honan and Anne (Bredican) Honan.
He was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and proudly served in the US Navy. His service included an eight month assignment in the North Atlantic as a jet mechanic aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He retired after an extended career with the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority at the Quabbin Reservoir.
John was an avid collector of antique gaming machines. A keen pool player, he never passed up an opportunity to make a break shot. A committed Red Sox fan, he took great pride in his hometown history and the life long friendships he had established there.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, March 23rd from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden. John will be buried at the Massachusetts State Veteran Cemetery in Winchendon privately.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or the charity of the donors choice.
