Henry J. "Bud" Honan

1940 - 2025

Henry J. Honan, known to all as "Bud", was 85 years young when he passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025.
He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on September 30, 1940.
Bud's work ethics and making money came early in life starting at the age of 10, due to his height he was able to be a caddy. In 1952 and at the age of 14 he and his family relocated to Florida.  During his teen years he learned construction from working with his step dad, those learned skills continued throughout his life.
After graduating high school he entered the United States Air Force and served his time in the Philippines while holding the rank of Lieutenant AP Police. After serving his 4 years he returned to Wallingford, Pennsylvania to pursue a career in banking starting as a trainee at Girard Bank later known as Mellon Bank. Bud's work ethics excelled in financing and he soon made his way to Regional VP over five branches. He retired from Mellon in 1993 only to immediately go to work at the urging of one of his bank clients Carl of C. Abbonizio Contractors where he handled the company's finances.
He took up sailing for a brief time. He was an avid reader and he enjoyed reading books while sunning on the beach or his back yard. He loved bicycling around Amelia Island doing his errands. He started each day with 600 sit ups!  He would remind his family and friends no matter how successful they were not to forget where they came from.
Bud was preceded in death by his mother, Elvira Mauloni Morrison, his father, Henry Honan, and brother, Joseph Honan.
He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Zakryk and Rosemarie Gallagher, brother- in- law, John Zakryk, nieces Jennifer Gallagher and Crystal Piol, a great nephew, Vallin Piol, and sister- in- law, Dottie Honan.
Rather than flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnels To Towers, in memory of Bud.
A Celebration of Henry's life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach.
